Product Description
Here are a pair of vintage screw back earrings created by Taxco artist Tono who possessed an ingenious flair for both modernist and traditional Mexican motifs. Tono is best known for his piedra negra work but has become highly collectible in his many other works as well. These earrings are stamped and signed by the artist. Cecilia is the mark of the Taxco plateria Cecilia, for which Tono produced many of his pieces, and the number 68 is the design or inventory number. Both Tono and Cecilia are featured in Bille Hougart’s The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks. this is a delightful work of wearable art. They are a pair of Marquise style sterling silver focals with raised Marquise tiger eye cabochons suspended from sterling silver hangers with tiger eye points.
Please remember this is a piece of vintage or retro jewelry. Most of it is used and will show some signs of “normal wear” that comes with age. We are very careful not to destroy any patina that may have formed as we think it adds to the beauty of these pieces. Of course you may want to polish or clean off the patina, and that is totally up to you. As we describe each piece if we find any flaws or defects we will point them out in the description. If we have replaced clasps or made other repairs, we will also note these in the description.
