An Egyptian limestone tile that reto dates back to 1977. This seems to be a depiction of the Egyptian goddess Isis leading Queen Neferiti into the after life. The tile is made of limestone and is a colorful carved and painted rendition of the two.
It was Neferiti’s husband and king who removed all the gods of Egypt for a single one, the sun god, Aten. He declared all gods except Aten to be false. Akhenaten denounced the belief systems of his people, including their burial rites. He eradicated the names and images of other gods and even replaced Isis with his love Neferiti. This tile was purchased originally in Egypt by an American adventuress on one of her many journeys about the world. The tile is a recreation of ancient Egyptian wall reliefs and measures 4 3/4 inches wide by 5 3/4 inches long.
