We believe this gold filled herringbone patterned chain was made in the early 1950’s.
We believe this chain was made in the early 1950’s and is in very good condition. The maker’s mark is on this piece as is the designation of it being 14kt gold filled. It is an excellent example of a 20 inch long, herringbone patterned men’s necklace and does not show obvious signs of wear. It had only one owner, was well taken care of and spent most of its time in his jewelry box. Here is a little information on gold filled items, just in case you were curious.
Gold filled items are regulated by the government, and as such, these items are pf a much better quality than gold plate which has no regulations at all. Gold filled jewelry is made from solid gold and filled with other alloys such as rhodium, brass, and sterling silver. Gold filled wears, looks and lasts like solid gold because its outer surface actually is solid gold. Everything you can see and touch is pure gold. In the jewelry industry the quantity of gold in gold filled jewelry must be at least 1/20th by weight of the total product.
Please remember this is a piece of vintage jewelry. It will show some signs of “normal wear” that comes with age. We are very careful not to destroy any patina that may have formed as we think it adds to the beauty of these pieces. Of course you may want to polish or clean off the patina, and that is totally up to you. As we describe each piece if we find any flaws or defects we will point them out in the description. If we have replaced clasps or made other repairs, we will also note these in the description.
